About Village Without Walls

  • We provide the support needed so our members can remain in their homes and engaged in their communities.
  • We are an inclusive, interdependent community where everyone can age in place and live in homes of their choice safely, affordably, happily and healthfully for as long as possible.
  • We are senior neighbors and friends who want to connect with each other and with the resources that are needed to stay active and independent.
  • Our members have peace of mind because of our commitment to meet their service needs with trained, background-checked volunteers. Many of these volunteers are also members themselves because they see the value in the Village community.

What is Village Without Walls

It’s something new in western Washington County, Oregon. Our service area includes Hillsboro, Aloha, Cornelius, Forest Grove and the rural areas served by those cities.

Village Without Walls is not a PLACE; it’s a PLAN that encourages neighbors to help neighbors in their community. This kind of Village is not a building or real estate development or retirement community. Picture an organized network of volunteers and lower-cost services that support Village members by doing tasks necessary to maintain quality of life in their own homes.

Villages like this are popping up all over the country.  Village Without Walls is the first grassroots aging-in-place Village in Washington County, Oregon. The two videos below talk about the Villages in the Portland metropolitan area, including Village Without Walls.

“Nationwide, the majority of Villages are ‘grassroots/bottom-up’—-like the original Village, Beacon Hill Village. Bottom-up Villages are founded by ordinary people who decide they want to have a Village in their community. Bottom-up/grassroots Villages are run by a Board or Governing Council that is elected by and answerable to the Village members.”
